Mississippi ranks 5th among sweetpotato producing states in the number of acres planted. Sweetpotatoes are produced on approximately 8200 acres in the state. Mississippi sweetpotatoes contribute $19 million dollars to the economy of the state. Total U.S. No. 1 production was approximately 82 million pounds. Presently, approximately 150 Mississippi farmers grow sweetpotatoes. Mississippi’s top five sweetpotato producing counties are Calhoun, Chickasaw, Pontotoc, Yalobusha and Panola.
